living with nature
We are Organic and Eco-Friendly
Our farm is eco-friendly and we hold a great respect for the environment. Our goal is to be as sustainable and low impact as possible. For this reason, we use solar power as well as electricity and we catch all of our water from the rain. We have a natural spring as a backup water source for the dry months. We recycle plastic, aluminum, cardboard and glass, and all of our compost is turned into organic waste which we use as soil.

cow pasture turned rainforest
We are also a Reforestation Project!
Our farm was once a sprawling cow pasture with little vegetation or rainforest growth aside from a few coconut and cacao trees. After buying the land in 2002, we began to plant hundreds of timber and tropical fruit trees. In fact, almost all of the vegetation you see when you visit us was planted by us!
Pure Tree Experience
Our Bocas del Toro Chocolate Farm Tour

Pure Tree Experience is our Bocas del Toro Chocolate Tour. The tour takes you on a circuit around our two-hectare farm where we show and explain everything from the forest and fauna, medicinal plants and wildlife, as well as our cacao and coffee plantations. (Indeed, our Chocolate Tour is about a lot more than just chocolate!)
Cacao is one of our main productions and at the end of the tour we demonstrate the process from bean to powder. You will get to taste and try it at every stage, ending in when it becomes chocolate with the addition of sugar. The chance to see animals is high as we have an array in the garden including the famous Isla Bastimentos red frog, white faced Capuchin monkeys, sloths, snakes, spiders, leaf cutter ants, red eyed tree frogs (sleeping!), as well as many insects and birds!
After the tour comes the tasting where you enjoy a selection of many dishes incorportating most of what you have just seen in our garden. Enjoy this healthy and organic meal knowing exactly where it all came from

"BEST. TOUR. EVER.'' Our Reviews...
EXCELLENT Based on 47 reviews Posted on F GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined The Pure Tree Experience and it was honestly one of the best tours I’ve ever done. You can feel the love, passion, and care that go into every part of it. Janette and her son Teo do an amazing job — warm, genuine, knowledgeable, and just truly lovely people. I enjoyed every minute and can wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone. If you're looking for a special, personal, and meaningful experience, this is absolutely the right place. 💚🌿Posted on Nicolas VuadensTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Je recommande vivement la visite de la finca. Nous avons adoré faire le tour et découvrir, en plus, des plantes comestibles, les explications sur le cacao . Ceci accompagné d'un repas pour goûter différentes choses fait maison. Tout était top, et la famille très accueillantePosted on MarieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We joined the plant tour at Pure Tree Experience and it was absolutely amazing! The passion and knowledge of the hosts made it such a special experience — we learned about local plants, traditional uses, and the natural ecosystem of Bastimentos. It truly opened our eyes to the beauty and richness of the island’s nature. After the tour, we had a fantastic homemade lunch — fresh, flavorful, and prepared with so much love. You could really taste the connection to the land in every bite. The setting, surrounded by jungle views, made it even more magical. We highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Bastimentos. It’s not just a tour — it’s a journey into nature, culture, and community. 🌴💚Posted on Aja GreyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Had an amazing experience both during the tour and during lunch. It was so interesting to have an interactive tour with our guide Teo picking different plants I have never seen before for us to smell and taste. Teo was very informative about all the different plants and animals we saw during the tour and was eager to answer any questions that I had. My favorite part of the experience was seeing the different plants throughout the tour that were then going to be used as ingredients during lunch. Lunch was also fantastic. Everything was delicious and I got to try new local fruits and foods. I would definitely recommend to someone looking to enjoy an afternoon in the jungle and learn more about the local environment!Posted on Gray HodgesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Absolutely amazing tour and an even better lunch. One of the best meals I’ve ever had and I usually don’t even like vegetables. On the tour you see so many different types of plants and see how cacao is processed. You can also see a bunch of red frogs and possibly monkeys. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip and I can’t recommend it more. If you like birds the owner also rehabilitates some parrots and a vulture! If you are in bocas del toro this is a must see place.Posted on Catalina ReyesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Posted on Dakini JaegerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had the most incredible time on this tour! The adventure begins with a scenic 15–20 minute hike from Old Bank up to the highest hill on Bastimentos — part jungle path, part winding walk through the colorful town. The trail is well marked, and though it’s definitely an uphill trek, the views (and the experience waiting at the top) make every step worth it. Once on the tour, I was blown away. Our guide, the middle son, was so knowledgeable and passionate, weaving together fascinating lessons on permaculture, organic farming, and cacao production. Everywhere you look, something new is growing — cacao pods, tropical fruits, herbs, etc. He would just pull something off of a tree or bush and give it to us to eat!! The tasting portion was a highlight — fresh edible plants and fruits right from the garden, and a rich, aromatic chocolate milk that was some of the best I’ve had. The experience ended with a hearty farm-fresh snack that honestly felt more like a delicious lunch: warm homemade bread, fresh toppings, and their famous brownie, which absolutely lives up to the hype. After the tour, I lingered to take photos of their cute birds and doggies.Posted on Ida ThaysenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had such a great experience. Lovely guys showing us around the garden. They were really good at explaining everything we went past, and that made us learn a lot of new things about plants and wild life here in Bocas. The lunch afterwards was phenomenal and well explained trough out the dishes. 10/10 would recommend🥰Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
